About the Author

We are potty training our daughter right now, and bought this book to help encourage her. This book is not encouraging, in my opinion! It is from the perspective of the older brother who is potty trained, and he talks about her smelling bad because she goes in her diaper, acts disgusted when she has an accident on the floor, then calling her a baby for not knowing how to use her potty, etc. My husband and I read the book, looking at each other the whole time like, we’re not reading this book again. It may be an okay book for the older brother whose baby sister is learning how to use the potty, but not a very encouraging read for the little girl who is learning how to use the potty. Back it goes!
My toddler loves Little Critter so I bought this book when I started potty training her at 18 mon. The book is long for a toddler but I made up my own shortened dialogue. The pictures are great and practical.This book didn't do any magic in terms of potty training but it helped relieve my toddlers anxiety. i have the book in the bathroom now so I can give it to her when she wants to go.Just so parents know, Little Sister gets accustomed to the potty before actually using it. She sits on it to watch tv, eat her lunch and her doll sits on it as well. If you don't want you kid to do this, then this book may not be for you.
Trying to get my kiddo excited for potty training has been difficult. I tried another book, but she wasn't feeling it. I got this because I remember reading Critter books as a child. Now she goes to the potty and asks for the "potty book". She will stay on the potty long enough to read this, which is an accomplishment. Certainly necessary for potty training.
My son loves this book! But, he loves all the Little Critter books. I'm not a huge fan of how the mom lets the little girl take the potty in to eat with it and watch tv...but that is a personal preference. Even unused, I feel the potty only belongs in the bathroom.
Told from the older brother perspective about his little sister learning to use the potty. Cute drawings and simple dialogue. The family goes to the store to buy a potty chair. She's too scared to use it, so the brother shows her. After a few missed attempts at using the potty, she is successful. My 2-year-old son likes the book and often selects it to be read. He likes to find the little spider hiding on the pages.
My son is one of the biggest Little Critter fans and often wants to do things just like him, so upon realizing this and experiencing trouble with him wanting to start potty training, I decided to get him this book. Voila! This book and some promises of new Hot Wheels got things rolling for sure! Now just getting him to remember to do number 2 in the toilet and not his underwear is the problem... A little help, Mercer Mayer?
We are just starting to introduce the idea of potty training to our almost two year old daughter. I decided to get her a few story books because she loves story time. This book has really fun pictures like all Little Critter books and I like how it is relatable to our situation. Just like little critter's sister, D likes to sit on her potty and would take it everywhere if I let her! I really like that the story includes mistakes ( accident in the sandbox and missing the potty) to help our daughter learn that mistakes are okay.When I showed my mom all the potty books I bought for D my mom said this was the same potty book I had as a kid!
The Little Sister in our family is potty training, and the Little Critter big brother is supporting her progress, so this book is a perfect fit for our family. It does justice to both kids' feelings about the experience.
